Abstract

Metallosis is a rare complication of knee arthroplasty, occurring due to the infiltration of metallic debris into periprosthetic soft tissues as a result of friction. The case of a 58-year-old man with previously treated high-grade leiomyosarcoma is presented. Subsequently, he developed a mass of periprosthetic soft tissue nine years after arthroplasty, requiring the extraction of the prosthesis and eventual supracondylar amputation. Histological analysis showed significant inflammation (SLIM IV). Complications of metallosis include damage to soft tissues, skin discoloration, necrosis, and joint destruction. However, in this case, vascular complications also occurred, leading to amputation.
