With the objective of evaluating the effects of two nutritional recovery strategies in malnourished children in the community, we compare the strategy "PIENU" (Protection of Infants at Nutritional Risk): GP (Group P) carried out in the health system; from early detection of malnutrition, monitoring of nutritional recovery in health centers, which was organized with: flowchart, "appointment box" home search in case of absence of control, provision of food plus micronutrients. And another strategy "CUCHARA DE AMOR": GC (Group C) of direct action at home (Spoon: provision of utensils A: Food (Home diet plus micronutrients) M: Adapted furniture, O: Organization of the home; weekly reconsultations). Information education communication (IEC) for both groups. Admission criteria: Children between 6 months and five years of age, diagnosed with mild (≤1DE) /moderate (≤2DE)/severe (≤3DE) malnutrition for weight/height indicator, without complications, no serious infections, no disabling pathologies; prior parental consent. Out of 5000 children 176 children entered the study randomly, 30 children out of 1000 children formed the CG, 146 out of 4000 children the GP; children were followed up for three months. Growth recovery, prevalence of infections was similar for both groups plus harmony, growth rate (P/T), psychomotor development and living conditions were significantly improved in the CG (p<0.01); we conclude that children treated at home have better recovery.
